MR KEATING AiR
Primary Art Education Specialist
About Me:
My name is Marcus Keating and I’m an Australian born artist and educator living and working in Birmingham, UK.
Currently, I am working as an Artist in Residence and an Art specialist in two Primary schools in Small Heath, Birmingham.
Way back in 2005, I completed a BFA at RMIT in Melbourne, focusing in the Sculpture and Spatial Practices department, where I mainly made video installations and performance-based artwork. I then went on the train as a Secondary Art teacher, where I predominantly taught a BTEC-style course on multimedia.
Over the years, I have worked in almost every single role within both Primary and Secondary, with many years as a KS1 classroom Teacher, giving me an in-depth understanding of National Curriculum requirements.
As a practicing artist, I regularly create and exhibit my own artwork in several art spaces throughout Birmingham, exploring themes of identity and modes of story-telling.
Over the last two years I have worked as an Art and D&T specialist within Wyndcliffe Primary Academy where I’ve also offered Art Therapy inspired interventions and provided ongoing CPD for Teachers and Teaching Assistants.
More recently, I have begun a new and ongoing Artist in Residence program between both Wyndcliffe and Marlborough Primary schools, both of which are a part of the Leigh Trust Academy.
