Year 2 Explorer Ships

For this project, Year  2 have been creating large scale Explorer ships out of cardboard.
They had previously learned about ________ and about his exploring with the Spanish ship The Santa Maria.

The children worked in mixed ability groups and came up with a list of everything their ship would need, before designing what they wanted it to look like.

We then used cardboard templates to draw and cut out using small hacksaws and scissors to tidy the edged up before using tape and hot glue to assemble them.
Once they were constructed, the children then painted then a single colour and then created a series of flags and shields to decorate them with.

The children used problem solving skills to make sure their ships held together, they especially loved using the hacksaws!
