Year 5 Vases

Marcus Keating AiR

For this project, the kids all worked in small groups of between 4-6 and we based their learning around traditional Tudor pottery as well as looking at Contemporary British ceramicist Grayson Perry.

The children needed to manipulate and stitch together sections of wire mesh to create their shape, before covering in plaster bandage, before covering in tissue paper. Throughout the day, I taught several skills to do with the construction, as well as looking at planning and designing within a team. At the end of the day the children then made a fact file about how they made their vase, the skills they learned and then evaluated the bits they enjoyed/ found challenging.
