Year 3 Tapestries.

Marcus Keating AiR

For this project, the Year 3 kids worked in teams of 2-3.
At Wyndcliffe, they children were looking at the Stone Age, so I based their learning and the artwork stories around what they had previously learned during Topic. At Marlborough, they were due to learn about the Anglo Saxons, so I taught them about the Bayeaux Tapestry and the Battle of Hastings.

The children began by learning a little about what a tapestry was and then about the theme of theirs, they then needed to plan and sketch everything onto paper before then transferring their designs on to a section of calico fabric. Once they were happy with their drawings, they then used paint and felt tip markers to add all the colour they wanted. When they were dry, we then got out the embroidery hoops, needles and threads and began to add extra sewn details.
